Event Technical Workshop - Throws

The Event technical workshops aim to cover the ‘what to coach’ material that supports the content contained on the Athletics Coach or Coach in Running Fitness qualifications, but also adds to the knowledge and practice base of established coaches.

The content will be delivered by National Coach Mentors and National Coach Development Programme coaches.

Individual Event Technical workshops that aims to deliver the ‘what to coach content’, providing coaches with the key principles to consider for Speed, Endurance, Throws and Jumps.

The content will cover:

  • Greater understanding of how physical conditioning can help develop technique
  • Technical Progressions, looking at the sequential progressions and how these may differ from athlete to athlete
  • The use of effective drills and activities
  • Practical opportunities to develop coaching observation and intervention

Workshop Overview

Classroom: Look at the underpinning movement principles of Throws

Classroom: Look at the recommend Technical Progressions for Shot Put, Javelin and Discus

Practical: Explore drills and activities which help develop:

  • Grip
  • Stance (Standing Throw and Power Positions)
  • Movement
  • Delivery and Release

Practical: Develop your coaching eye

Practical: Discuss coaching interventions

Who are these workshops targeted at?

Who are these workshops targeted at?

All existing coaches who want to develop their technical understanding should attend, but the workshops are specifically targeted at Athletics Coach, Coach in Running Fitness, existing Level 2 and 3 coaches and Coaching Assistants looking to develop their knowledge.

Coaches who have previously been involved with the LCDP and benefited from the technical curriculum are also encouraged to attend.

What will I need to bring on the day?

What will I need to bring on the day?

On the day please bring your printed confirmation email.

Coaches to bring their own packed lunch and drinks. Some facilities may have a canteen or cafe area, but some will have no areas available to buy lunch.

The workshop will be 75% practical so please bring suitable clothing i.e. trainers, shorts / tracksuit bottoms.

If I have booked but cannot attend now who do I contact?

If you cannot attend a workshop that you have booked onto please contact the CCSO Lead. As the spaces are limited we would want to open your space to another coach or leader.
